The event featured several speakers, including those affiliated with the Republican Party. Dan Herbster, who ran on the Republican ticket for state senator in 2007, was the first to speak at the rally.
"This is just ordinary Americans coming out and speaking their mind about what's going in their country," Herbster said.
"All of these political persuasions have a stake in our children's future. We are concerned about overspending."
Family and love were key points in Herbster's address.
"We care about the country our children, our grandchildren and their children will inherit one day," Herbster said. He added that people are frustrated about the reckless pending in all levels of government.
"The government is not living within its means," Herbster added.
The crowd echoed the feeling with "stop the spending" chants that reflected the overall ire of the protester discontentment over government spending.
"We are frustrated with the people we've hired to do our business in our state capital and our national capital and they don't even read the legislation," Herbster added. His comment was followed with chants of "read the bill" in reference to the massive 1,000-page stimulus bill passed earlier this year.
Herbster added that the federal government will be faced with pressing issues with Medicare and Medicaid and social security and that the government is promising all kinds of benefits that it simply can't fulfill and won't be accomplished with the continued reckless taxation and spending in government.
