House Dems See Tax Hike On Businesses As Only Solution to Unemployment Fund

House Democrats appear to oppose any attempt to fix the suffering state unemployment insurance fund that is not primarily a tax hike on Indiana businesses.

With the economic downturn, the State's unemployment insurance fund is in the black, and Senate Republicans were forced to come up with a legislative solution because House Labor Committee Chairman David L. Niezgodski failed to send a bill to the State Senate.  Democrats, who say they refuse to consider any adjustment to unemployment benefits, appear to want Indiana businesses to bear the full burden.  However, Democrats did take advantage of the issue to once again criticize their favorite whipping-boy Governor Mitch Daniels. In today's tough economic climate, a large hike in unemployment taxes could severely injure struggling local businesses and cause even more Hoosiers to lose their jobs.
