St. Joe County Voters Say "No New Taxes!"

The voters of St. Joseph County have spoken, and they've made crystal clear that, in a time of economic stress, they don't want tax hikes to pay for public transportation boondogles.

The South Bend Tribune reports.  Excerpt:

By an overwhelming margin, St. Joseph County voters on Tuesday said no to a proposed regional transportation district and the possibility of a new tax.

State Budget Passes, is Signed

Indiana lawmakers averted a state government shutdown Tuesday, passing a budget just hours before the previous budget ran out, and the governor quickly signed it into law.

 . . .

Rep. Jackie Walorski, R-Jimtown, . . . said the budget as passed is responsible to taxpayers and will help avoid the need to raise taxes in the future.

South Bend Common Council Grants Zoning Request to Charter School

On Monday night (June 9), the South Bend Common Council approved the zoning request for Xavier School of Excellence.  Now the new charter school can continue with construction in preparation for the upcoming school year.

I addressed the Council in their committee meeting Monday afternoon, and I also attended the Council meeting later that night at which the rezoning request was unanimously approved.
